I’m a township based content entrepreneur with more than 20 years’ experience in youth and community development work. I have acquired vast experience, knowledge, expertise and understanding volunteering and working in these two areas. Phemelo Kebinelang is a Former Head of the Youth Unit in the City of Johannesburg Municipality and now Content Creator. He has experience and expertise in, ● Implementing various learnership and internship programmes with more than 10 000 youth involved. ● Author and writer of a book/e-book, “How to Turn A Learnership Into Permanent Employment.” ● Online Content Entrepreneur and Founder of an Online Newsletter, “Be Intentional and Purposeful Today.” ● Facilitating and implementing learnership programmes for the youth volunteering at EMS - Emergency Management Services, JMPD -Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department and Metrobus. ● Partnering with Rockefeller Foundation and Mentec Foundation in training and hosting more than 500 youth on SAP Software training programme. ● Establishing 10 Youth Advisory and Skills Centres in all City of Johannesburg 7 regions. These centres are aimed at providing various youth services including skills development, computer training, food gardening, after school classes and running of youth empowerment workshops. ● Facilitating and implementing the National Youth Service skills development programme targeting more than 5 000 youth. ● Facilitating, coordinating and hosting more than 2 000 youth from all over the world as part of the Young One World Conference hosted by the City of Johannesburg municipality. The keynote speaker was the late UN Secretary General, Mr Kofi Annan. ● Listed as one of the 200 Mail and Guardian influential youth. ● Establishing the first Youth in Business and Young Women in Business Desks in the City of Johannesburg. ● As chief coordinator and facilitator of young people trained by the City of Johannesburg municipality during the 2010 Soccer World Cup Final in South Africa. Facilitating 2010 National Youth Service programme in areas of Westbury and Riverlea. The initiative was part of the preparations for the hosting of 2010 World Cup Final. The initiative included the cleaning of filthy areas, refurbishment of old age homes, schools and the painting (murals) of public spaces. ● Working closely and sharing best practices with organisations based in the US and Brazil. These organisations were involved in the rehabilitation of offenders during and after serving time in prison. ● Implementing youth ex-offenders learnership programme between the City of Johannesburg and South African Correctional Services. Implemented the first of its kind learnership programme working in partnership with Nicro targeting 66 young ex-offenders. Some of these ex-offenders were employed permanently by city’s departments whilst others were given learnership extensions. ● Implementing various youth entrepreneurship, socio-economic, job creation and youth in agriculture programmes working with YARD (Youth in Agriculture & Rural Development) & WARD (Women in Agriculture & Rural Development) within the City of Johannesburg. Working and partnering with the youth and Pikit-Up to clean the streets in Johannesburg. ● Partnering and hosting career expos and exhibitions on a regular basis.
